Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. She is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father's death as a Carnival barker at the age of an infant, she had to help keep the family going by working as a maid and server. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She was a student in the area. She quit the institution she was in after only two years in order to pursue acting as a profession. The path she chose was filled with difficulties. After landing a gig at New York as a model for a detective magazine, she was unable to find jobs on stage. After that, she was a hat check girl at a night club before calling the shots and moving back to Boston. She made enough money by working as an usher during the day while at night performing with the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. She earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
